Acclimate Bamboo
Acclimate for 7-14 days in installation room. Bamboo is sensitive to humidity changes.
Check Moisture Content
Use moisture meter on both bamboo and subfloor. Difference should be less than 2%.
Prepare Subfloor
Ensure subfloor is clean, dry, and level. Install vapor barrier over concrete.
Install Underlayment
Roll out foam or felt underlayment. This is crucial for bamboo to reduce noise.
Plan Layout
Bamboo planks can be narrow. Plan to avoid pieces less than 2 inches at walls.
Install First Row
Face-nail first row with 1/2-inch expansion gap. Predrill to prevent splitting.
Blind Nail Subsequent Rows
Use pneumatic nailer at 45-degree angle through tongue. Bamboo is harder than oak, so use appropriate pressure.
Stagger End Joints
Offset joints by at least 6 inches. Mix planks from different boxes for color variation.
Cut Planks
Use carbide-tipped blade for clean cuts. Bamboo is very hard and dulls blades quickly.
Complete Installation
Install final rows, maintaining expansion gaps. Use pull bar for tight spaces.
Install Trim
Add baseboards and transition strips. Allow finish to cure before heavy traffic.
