Installation Steps
1
Choose Correct Underlayment
Foam for laminate, felt for engineered wood, cork for sound dampening. Check flooring manufacturer requirements.
2
Clean Subfloor
Sweep and vacuum subfloor thoroughly. Remove all debris and dust.
3
Install Vapor Barrier (Concrete)
Lay 6-mil polyethylene sheeting over concrete. Overlap seams 6 inches and tape.
4
Roll Out Underlayment
Unroll underlayment perpendicular to planned flooring direction. Butt edges together tightly.
5
Tape Seams
Use moisture-resistant tape to seal all seams. This prevents shifting and moisture penetration.
6
Trim Excess
Cut underlayment flush with walls using utility knife and straightedge.
7
Overlap at Doorways
Extend underlayment through doorways into adjacent rooms for continuous coverage.
