Inspect Subfloor
Check for squeaks, soft spots, water damage, and structural issues. Walk entire floor and note problems.
Check for Level
Use 6-foot level to check for high and low spots. Mark areas that need attention.
Test Moisture Content
Use moisture meter on wood subfloors and concrete. Moisture must be within acceptable range.
Secure Loose Subfloor
Drive screws through subfloor into joists every 6 inches to eliminate squeaks and movement.
Replace Damaged Sections
Cut out water-damaged or rotten sections. Replace with new plywood of same thickness. Screw securely to joists.
Sand High Spots
Use belt sander or floor sander to level high spots on wood subfloors.
Fill Low Spots
Fill small depressions with floor patch compound. Feather edges for smooth transition.
Apply Self-Leveling Compound
For larger areas, mix and pour self-leveling compound. It will flow to create level surface.
Clean Thoroughly
Vacuum and sweep entire subfloor. Remove all dust, debris, and loose material.
Apply Primer
Prime concrete subfloors before applying leveling compound or adhesive. Improves adhesion.
