Acclimate Vinyl
Store planks in room for 48 hours at 65-85°F. Vinyl is temperature-sensitive during installation.
Prepare Subfloor
Ensure subfloor is smooth, clean, and dry. Fill cracks and level high spots. Vinyl shows every imperfection.
Choose Installation Method
Floating click-lock for easy DIY installation, or glue-down for permanent installation in commercial spaces.
Install Underlayment (Floating)
For floating floors, roll out thin vinyl underlayment. Tape seams. Skip this step for glue-down.
Plan Layout
Snap chalk line down center of room. Plan layout to avoid narrow pieces at walls.
Start First Row (Floating)
Remove tongue from first row planks. Place against wall with 1/4-inch spacers for expansion.
Click Planks Together
Angle plank at 20 degrees and insert tongue into groove. Lower and press until click is heard.
Apply Adhesive (Glue-Down)
Spread adhesive with notched trowel over 3x3 foot section. Follow manufacturer's open time specifications.
Place and Roll Planks
For glue-down, press planks firmly into adhesive. Roll with 100 lb roller within 30 minutes of placement.
Cut Planks
Score face with utility knife along straightedge. Bend plank to snap. Cut backing with knife.
Stagger Seams
Offset end joints by at least 6 inches. Use random pattern for natural appearance.
Install Around Obstacles
Create cardboard template for complex cuts. Transfer to plank and cut with utility knife.
